We all know that drinking water is essential to maintain good health, but how much water should you drink per day? And what is the proper balance of water for your body weight? These are questions that we often ask ourselves, especially if we experience Fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, fatigue, PEM (Post-Exercise Malaise), brain fog, and pain. In this blog, we will cover the importance of drinking enough water and explore just how much water you should consume per pound in ounces.

Our bodies are made up of 60% water, and every system in our body depends on water. Drinking enough water is critical to maintain good health and overall wellness. Water helps to regulate our body temperature, transport nutrients to our cells, remove waste, and lubricate our joints. Drinking enough water can also promote healthy skin, hair, and nails, and prevent constipation.

How Much Water Should You Drink Per Day? This can vary based on several factors, such as gender, age, activity level, and weight. According to the Institute of Medicine, it is recommended that men drink about 13 cups (104 ounces) of water per day, and women drink about nine cups (72 ounces) of water per day.

However, those recommendations are just general guidelines and may not be enough for everyone.

How Much Water Should You Drink Per Pound is a much better question!

Taking your weight into consideration is a much better way to determine your hydration needs!  A general guideline is to drink half your body weight in ounces of water per day. For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, you should drink 75 ounces of water per day.

However, this may not be sufficient for those with Fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, fatigue, PEM, brain fog and pain, who may require more hydration. It is essential to listen to your body and drink more water if you feel thirsty, have dark urine, or experience any other symptoms of dehydration.

Many of us struggle to drink enough water throughout the day. One way to stay hydrated is to carry a reusable water bottle with you wherever you go and refill it throughout the day. When you remember to drink, always swallow at least 4 oz at a time! You can also try adding natural flavorings like lemon essential oil* or cucumber slices to your water to make it more enjoyable.

Drinking enough water is crucial for overall health and wellness. The amount of water you should drink per day can vary based on several factors, but a general guideline is to drink half your body weight in ounces of water per day. However, those with Fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, fatigue, PEM, brain fog, and pain, may require more hydration and should listen to their body’s needs. By staying hydrated, you can promote good health and prevent dehydration-related complications.
